Sunday night

This weekend came at just the right time.  Last week was a long one, but I made it and now am facing another Monday morning in 12 hours or so.  This weekend I spent time just recharging my batteries.  I was able to Skype with my friend Steph in Ottawa.  We haven't seen each other since I moved away, and haven't actually talked in about a year.  It was nice to reconnect with her.  I am busy exploring Skype to use in my classroom and am hoping that I connect with someone soon for my class to talk to.  Thanks to Jaki that could happen this week.
I was able to get into my room and make a mess for a bit, but now am planning for the week ahead.  Or that's what I'm supposed to be doing.  It's 100's Day tomorrow, and Chris and I have been collaborating  for it.  We have some cute activities planned for tomorrow and the kids are really excited about it.  They didn't even notice that they didn't have a Valentine's Day party.

I'll leave you with a few pages that I've been working on.  Just have the journaling to do.  Slowly but surely I'm getting that wedding trip done.  I discovered a pile of pictures under some paper on my desk and realized that I haven't done any pages from last year!  Better late than never I guess.

Snow Day

Well we are not really supposed to call it that, but buses didn't run (for the third time this year) and schools were still open.  We had to report to the district office this morning for a collaboration date we had set up.  It was nice making that short drive up the road.  The snow has been blowing for most of the day, with periodic breaks.  I have barely noticed as I have used this time to make a start on report cards.

I was talking with a colleague this morning about the February crazies that seem to affect kids.  I have been having extra issues with some of my more challenging students and to make it better, kids I normally don't have problems with have added themselves to the mix.  It makes for a very trying day, especially when you add parent phone calls onto the end of the day.  As I was talking to my friend I realized that I too am having a February lull.  I don't know if it happens to everyone, but  while I am loving being in the classroom, I am finding myself very susceptible to negativity.  One little thing will set me off and it's very hard to break the cycle. When I look out the window and see this, I feel a little better.  The sun shining on fresh snow.  Hopefully we get some more!

Happy birthday Chris!

It was Chris' 40th birthday yesterday.  40. Wow.  I fortunately have a few more years before that happens to me.  He had lots of birthday wishes from almost every kid in the school, thanks to our principal announcing it just before recess.  What got me was the little laugh that broke through while she was saying he was 40.  She was enjoying burning him.  A LOT.  This made me laugh so hard the kids started laughing along with me, not really getting the joke.  It was great.  Then she interrupted his Math lesson to suggest the kids learn all the different ways to count to forty!  She came next door to my room wondering out loud "wouldn't be nice for your class to go and sing Happy Birthday to Mr Nowell"  of course the kids were all for it.  So over we went to sing our best wishes to Mr Nowell.  He even got a birthday pencil.  He was so excited.

My husband's wishes were simple for his birthday.  He wanted to BBQ.  I laughed, but he got his wish, it actually was above 0 so he got to BBQ a steak.  I have to say it made me think of Summer just a little bit.  Yeah, all that white stuff is snow...Summer is a long way off for us, but we have to take what we can get.
